Human beings can forget as well as remember. In our society today, we are required to learn a lot of things, so people hope to have good memories and believe remembering is very important in our lives, but forgetting is a necessary skill. It should be stressed more because our lives would be fearful if it were not for this skill.
Forgetting is helpful to make our lives better. For example, without forgetting, it would be harder to adapt ourselves to changes in our lives. The behavior we learned ten years ago may not be correct any longer now.
For another, forgetting helps us to put our brain in order. According to one study, the life of people who seldom forget is full of confusion. Probably, there is too much information in such people's mind, so they have difficulty in extracting right information from there at proper occasions.
Besides, it is necessary to forget; otherwise, our lives would be intolerable. We experience horrible or sad events as well as happy ones. Although it is pity to forget happy memories, we can refresh ourselves by forgetting hard ones.
Our lives get better thanks to the cycle of remembering and forgetting. Forgetting is a great ability for us because we can recover from stressful occurrences and try to learn new things. It is not too much to say that we cannot live without forgetting.
